Goodyear Welted Boots.

As a maker of lifestyle driven footwear, Jump recognizes that you simply can’t wear sneakers every single day of your life and so comes our offering of some amazingly crafted boots using the Goodyear Welt construction as an extension to our sneaker collection.

This process begins by lasting the upper of the boot and fastening it by sewing the welt to the inner and upper sole.  A thread is then used to hold the material firmly together.  The welt forms a cavity which is then filled with a cork material.  The final part is the sole which is then attached to the welt with a high power adhesive.  The very nature of the construction means that Goodyear welted boots take much longer to manufacture than cheaper alternatives.  We managed to find a hidden gem of a factory that could produce these constructions for us.

These are available at Jump SoHo and Saks Fifth Avenue.

BEP NYC JUMPIN INTO AKSHUN.

It’s always a pleasure to have the Peas in NY because I know it means a lot of JUMPIN INTO AKSHUN.  Hahaha – a phrase we coined out in Asia.  Taboo invited me to his concert and I thought I’d bring along my favorite buyers Liz and Cara from Bloomingdales, Chris and Lillian from Barneys and Louis DMM from Saks.  The concert was ridiculously sick and pounded your senses with visuals on top of heavy hitting songs.  It opened up with LMFAO who were all wearing TABOOXJUMPs and Luda.  Then led into the Peas with an interlude by David Guetta who dropped some of his sick tracks turning the place into a club.  When I Gotta Feeling came on, you could feel the stadium shaking beneath your feet.  It was a total experience but what was the most dope thing about it all for me was all the nods to JUMP during the concert!!  Taboo welcomed everyone to the concert saying how cool NYC is because of this place and that place and JUMP!!  Later on he comes out brushes off his TABOOXJUMPs and tells everyone he’s about to JUMP INTO AKSHUN with TABOOXJUMPs in stores now.  Later on during Will.I.Am’s DJ set, he plays JUMP by House of Pain.  And as if that weren’t enough, there was the after party at M2 which made the following day a rough one but we had to power through it as we had interviews lined up at Bloomingdale’s as they officially launch the TABOOXJUMP collection in their stores.

Meet and greet with buying teams and BEP.

LMFAO all rockin TABOOXJUMP.

The performance begins.

Fergie’s outfits were crazy.

After party was dope.

The interview with Mun2 was tough…because we was all hungover.  Hahaha.  But Paula Garces (Maria from Harold and Kumar) did a great job probing Tab about the collabo.  And I must say, Bloomingdale’s did one hell of a job with their visual!

Afterwards we hit up the store of course and Taboo hooked Paula up with an autographed pair!  Lucky girl.  Now she can obsess over it.  Haha.

Offering further evidence that JUMPs are the best sneakers to dance in, Taboo shows Sharon Clott how he dances in his TABOOXJUMPs.  Click to see the video.

Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas recently launched a sneaker collaboration with the Chinese brand Jump. We caught up with the singer last week at Saks Fifth Avenue, where his shoes are sold for $298 a pair, to check out the collection and see if they’re going to be a good grab this holiday season. If nothing else, the kicks are as shiny as Christmas ornaments, made with four different metallic colors — gold and red, silver, gray, and patent black. They are also covered with zippers, “for people who want to stash certain things,” Taboo says, like candy … or drugs. The Pea, who calls himself a “Sneaker Pimp” and owns over 600 pairs of sneakers himself, also showed us how easy it is to skip and dance in sneakers as opposed to stilettos, particularly doing a move called “rejecting.” And just like we thought, rejection — dancing or otherwise — is tough. See more in the video.

The Black Eyed Peas was in town last week to induct U2 into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  Kind of a big deal when they’re rubbing shoulders with Mick Jagger and the like.  He had a chance to pop into the SoHo store with Apl.

Later on we stopped into Saks to check out the shoes.

It got kind of crazy.  Kids were offering free dental work from their father’s practice in Brooklyn.  Tourists from Italy were asking for autographs.  One woman inadvertently asked for mine thinking I was famous.  That was exciting.

They’ll be back next week to perform on SNL and at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show and also for one mega event with us on November 12th.  Keep you posted.

Jump and Taboo of The Black Eyed Peas Launch Luxury Sneaker Collection Exclusively for Saks

NEW YORK, NY – Sep. 22 – In an innovative partnership bridging fashion and music, NY based, lifestyle footwear brand, Jump, has teamed up with Taboo of three time Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum recording group, The Black Eyed Peas, to design a limited collection of luxury sneakers. While the performer had already worn several of Jump’s characteristic sneakers on tour, it was a meeting at the Jump SoHo boutique that spawned a full on creative collaboration between the artist and the brand. Soon after, the idea was presented to Saks Fifth Avenue, whereupon the product was embraced and an exclusive launch for the TABOOXJUMP collection was born.

The collection consists of four models adapted from one of Jump’s key styles, the Zeto high top. The sneakers will feature unique branding highlighting the collaboration and will be packaged in limited edition satin bags and drawer boxes. They will retail for $298 a pair.

“It is such an amazing opportunity to align with Taboo, whose design sensibility so perfectly coincides with ours, particularly during what I believe to be the height of his and The Black Eyed Peas’ success”, said Jump Chief Propagandist, Victor Hsu. Through this collaboration, we hope Taboo’s dreams as a shoe fanatic can come to fruition and he can use the experience as a foundation to build his own line of footwear in the future”, said Jump Captain, Lawrence Chen.

“The moment I wore my first pair of Jump shoes I knew there was something extra fresh and unique about them”, said Taboo. “It went perfectly with my style and it had such a great fit while I performed on stage. I’m so honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with such a great company and an amazing group of people to create the perfect union between Jump and myself.”

Saks buyer, Shawn Pean describes the collaboration as “the perfect synergy of Brand and Lifestyle. Taboo has a great sense of style that has become iconic for many, and Jump is a footwear brand that encompasses this lifestyle dressing through a footwear perspective. The brand collaboration has tremendous upside and we are pleased to get in on a ground level and help take this to new heights.”

The collection will be sold exclusively at select Saks locations nationwide for Fall 09 and will launch officially on October 14th.

It’s been the most exciting FFANY show ever.

FFANY  stands for Fashion Footwear Association of New York.  It’s like the mini fashion week for shoes.  Honestly, it’s not usually very exciting though I hear in the old days it was something else.  However, this season’s has been something special.  It started when I received some shoes I’d been waiting for night and day for weeks.  We’ve had and continue to have amazing success with the Vanquish in all the beautiful materials.  A while back when I’d met Taboo and The Black Eyed Peas, he mentioned we should do a collabo.  Light bulbs flickering and Boom Boom Pow, I kindly asked Larry to put some of our best materials on our newest and soon to be hottest style, the Zeto for Tab.  And boy did he deliver.  Here are the results.

And Captain Lawrence outdoes himself again.  So after what turned out to be a really productive afternoon (read wine and cheese consumption) at the showroom with Zappos, I had to meet Taboo at the store to present him with these shoes for our project and on the way I saw Shawn Pean, my buyer from Saks waiting for a cab with two of his colleagues so Marco, Chris and I scooped him and his crew up in the Jumpmobile (an old school Benz ML).  Mind you, I had only seen these the day before and so they were truly making their debut but of course I had to show Shawn and of course, he loved them!  More light bulbs and we we decided we’d have to do an event with BEP at Saks and introduce these looks there.  Brilliance.

When we got the store, Taboo showed up and we showed him the new illness.  He literally said, “OH FUHSCHNIZZLES.”  Just kidding.  He said something else and was totally floored.  I told him about introducing our collab at Saks and he was all over it.

This is going to be a long post.  Afterwards we had our company dinner at Antique Garage down the road and as you can see here, had a great time as usual.

After that we hit up Richie Rich’s party for Chris Coffee at Garden in the Sky at the Cooper Square Hotel.  Great party, open bar and the weather was perfect for it.  I’d been wondering what the building was.  It’s got a really interesting design.

So last night we hit up the Black Eyed Peas album release party at Griffin (old PM) in Meatpacking which was another dope party.  Taboo was kind of enough to put me on the list to an otherwise completely exclusive event.  Top shelf open bar and we saw just about every celebrity in the world there and I got to introduce Shawn and the Saks crew to the Peas.  Great karma.
